Heat pump types
Which heat pump do you need?
Most homes start with a high-wall in the living area. Your installer confirms the right type and size on site.

Why use Heat Pump Install
One local installer, not a list of companies
Ringing around for heat pump quotes takes time. Send one request and we pass it to a local installer who already works in your area.
They come to your home, look at the room and where the outdoor unit can go, and give you a written quote for that house. If you are happy, the same installer does the work.
- Your details go to one installer, not a shared list
- A business that already works in your area
- A written quote after a site visit, not a guess over the phone
- Free to use and no obligation to go ahead
Heat pump costs
What does a heat pump cost?
Every home is different, so your installer prices the job after they have seen it. The heat pump itself is only part of the cost. These are the things that change the price most:
- The size of the room and the capacity it needs
- How far the outdoor unit is from the indoor unit
- Wall type: weatherboard, brick or concrete
- Access, height, and whether scaffolding is needed
- Whether the switchboard needs a new circuit

You may qualify for a heat pump grant
The government programme can cover most of the cost of an approved high-wall heat pump in the living area for eligible homeowners. Check the rules, then mention it on the quote form.

Heat pump questions
Who actually does the install?
An installer in your area. We pass the job to them. They visit, quote, install and stand behind the warranty.
How do I know what size I need?
Capacity is in kilowatts, not brand names. A bedroom is often 2.5–3.5 kW. A typical Kiwi living area is 5–7 kW. Insulation, glazing, ceiling height and a south-facing wall all move the number. A specialist should walk the room, not guess from a floor-plan photo.
How much does a heat pump cost in New Zealand?
The installer writes the quote after they have seen the room. Pipe length, brick, scaffolding and switchboard work all change it. They price the job.
Is there a grant?
Warmer Kiwi Homes, run by EECA, can cover most of an approved high-wall if you qualify. It is means-tested, usually for pre-2008 homes, with insulation rules. Ducted and floor units are not funded. Mention it on the form if you think you are eligible.
What happens after I send the form?
We pass your details to one local heat pump business in your area. They get in touch about a site visit. How quickly they reply, and whether they quote, is up to them.
Do I have to go ahead?
No. The form is free. You talk to the installer and decide.
Which heat pump do I need?
Start with the room, then the type, then the brand. Most Kiwi lounges take a high-wall. Open-plan or whole-home jobs may need multi-split or ducted. The installer specifies it on site.
